Foam Play Blocks: Before & After
Who's up for a Block Party?
Thank you to the Quincy Children’s Museum for trusting us to make these foam blocks look new again. When the QCM came to us with a need, we were up for the challenge. These foam interactive play blocks see a lot of use and creativity when they are out and about. Sometimes the events are held outdoors at parks, playgrounds, and parking lots. These blocks get pretty dingy with all the handling and play, along with the dirt and grime. We were able to use our State-of-Art Ultrasonic Cleaner to bring these blocks back to life. Have any items you think cannot be cleaned?Call us today, and let us clean it for you. You can count on us to make it clean when our Community is in need.SERVPRO of Quincy, IL is always HERE TO HELP.

SERVPRO loves to Help!
SERVPRO of Quincy opened its doors and its heart on Saturday, January 22, 2022. We transformed our shop into an assembly line of bed-making pros from Sleep in Heavenly Peace of Liberty, IL.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) is a non-profit organization whose sole mission is to make sure "No kid sleeps on the floor in our town". So, they ask and we listened. We opened our doors to a day to build bunk beds for the area children in need of a bed. On this day over 30 volunteers showed up to build 20 beds.
The day was made extra special because the local PBS station's "Illinois Stories" was on-site to shoot a short documentary on SHP and the great need that they fill in our community. Please watch the video here at this link: Illinois Stories
You can count on us if disaster strikes and if our Community is in need.

Unwanted to Wanted

Towels and Blankets
Recently, SERVPRO of Quincy was hired to do a commercial water loss at an out-of-service motel. The job would include water cleanup, mold remediation, construction, and laundry. There were massive amounts of bedding materials at this particular facility that needed to be cleaned.
Most of the items cleaned had been returned, but we were left with several pallets of bedding items that the motel did not want returned. So, these items could have easily been thrown away and never thought about again. But instead, we began to think of ways to turn these unwanted items into wanted items.
First of all, we took some of the towels to the local human society to use in the bathing of their furry guests. Then some of the blankets were distributed to several of the local food pantry boxes. Some of the mattress pads and covers will be used by a local Kiwanis Club in the making of their quilts for children and those in need.
You can count on us if disaster strikes.

Tips for Falls: Leaf Edition
10/25/2021 (Permalink)
Falling Leaves? What to do?
Days are getting shorter, nights are getting longer, the weather is getting colder, and leaves are beginning to cover the ground as you and the trees prepare for winter.
It may be tempting to just leave the foliage on your lawn for the winter, but if you want a healthy lawn come spring, you will want to clean it up. Letting the leaves remain on your yard thru the winter prevents sunlight from reaching the grass and could result in mold and bacteria. It is suggested that you wait until most of the leaves have fallen to save you from multiple cleanups.
If you don't like raking, you can easily use a lawn vac to turn them into useful mulch. Another option would be to use a mulching mower and just mow over them, turning them into a great natural fertilizer for your yard.
You can count on us if disaster strikes.

3.5" in 8 hours
When the rain and storm moved in early Sunday morning, no one knew what to expect. But what we ended up with was 3.5" of rain in under 8 hours. The downspouts and storm drains just could not handle the volume. The ground was soon saturated and the water had nowhere to go except into homes and basements.
Once the calls for help started coming into our office early Sunday morning, they continued into Sunday evening. But we take pride in being available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Our crews responded to each call that came in. They gathered equipment, loaded vehicles, and headed out. As they got each customer started, under control and manageable, they moved on to the next person in need.
So, when we say we are 24/7/365, we mean it.
You can count on us if disaster strikes.

2021 Dogwood Parade - Celebrating the Hero in All of Us
"Celebrating the HERO in all of Us"
The Quincy, IL 2021 Dogwood Parade was back in full force this year with almost 200 entries and the theme was so fitting after the last year all of us have experienced.
"Celebrating the Hero in all of Us", was a perfect theme for SERVPRO of Quincy. This last year has been very challenging with water, fire, and mold losses, in addition to all the COVID-19 cleanings and pro-active cleanings. Every employee stepped up and made the best of tough situations and went above and beyond to be "Heroes" to our customers.
So, a few employees and our owner Tim Maguire gathered on Saturday morning to show our "Super-Hero"! It was a Beautiful Day to celebrate and show our community support. And to show everyone "Why SERVPRO?" is the Best Choice to be their, "Super Heroes of Cleaning & Restoration!"
SERVPRO: More than Cleaning & Restoration... Caring

More than Cleaning & Restoration... it's Caring
Community involvement is more than just Cleaning and Restoration, it's caring for the community and those around you. SERVPRO of Quincy is teamed up with the Quincy Neighborhood Foundation, who see to it that neighborhood "Blessing Boxes" or "Mini-Pantries" are stocked with food and personal care items.
Recently we received a call from an employee at the Quincy Sam's Club. They wanted to donate several totes to be alongside the Mini-Pantries. These totes would be used for Hats, Coats, Blankets, Gloves, Blankets, Hand and Feet Warmers, etc. This was a Great Idea as the recent temperatures had been well below 0 degrees with the windchill.
We prepared the totes with signage and secured the totes to the pantries with a locked bicycle cable. Since the weather has now warmed a bit, the totes can be used for personal and hygiene products, leaving more room for food items in the pantry boxes.
Anyone wanting to help with items or drop off items can contact our office.

SERVPRO of Quincy Owner: Tim Maguire presenting $1,000 Check to Blessing Foundation-Breast Center
Sharing with the Community
October was Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The entire Team here at SERVPRO of Quincy participated in spreading the word and awareness. We traded our Green and Orange for Pink, used social media, and also word of mouth to bring attention to this important cause. With everyone's effort, we were able to donate $1,000.00 to the Blessing Foundation - Breast Center - Blessing Health System. This is in honor of those who have battled, those in the midst of the battle, and all those who will fight this terrible disease. A representative from the Blessing Breast Center let us know how appreciative they were for the donation. She said, 100% of the money donated will go towards helping those in the community. Things such as mammograms, checkups, x-rays, and other procedures are paid for with these funds, as well as other expenditures like gas money and bills incurred by the patients. Thank you to everyone for bringing Awareness.

SERVPRO of Quincy cares about Breast Cancer Awareness
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
SERVPRO of Quincy cares about more than just Fire & Water Cleanup & Restoration. Although these are the backbone of our business, we know that people and their families suffer from other devastations as well. A very big problem is Breast Cancer. So, we as a team decided that the month of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we would all support our local hospital and the Blessing Foundation Breast Center.
We all donned Pink SERVPRO Here to Help t-shirts. And we shared with those who asked, why we were wearing the different color. All to bring awareness and attention to those struggling with this terrible disease of breast cancer.
We also ran a Facebook promotion where we would draw more attention to the cause. We asked for Likes, Follows and Shares about the post and if we received enough response we would donate $1,000 to the Breast Center.
We are proud to announce we will be making the presentation very soon! We want to thank everyone who has helped us with our goal.
If you would like to help, please reach out to us.

Field of Honor: Military and Veterans
Why SERVPRO? Community
SERVPRO of Quincy is so proud to be a part of the Exchange Club of Quincy. We were able to take part in this years 2020 Field of Honor program. The Field of Honor is a field of 1,000 American Flags set up each year to honor our Veterans and our current Military on or around 9/11.
SERVPRO along with several dozen business owners and employees helped set up the field on 9/11 and take down the flags on 9/14. Through out the weekend many people traveled by just to see the site. It was breathtaking, especially at night when the entire field was lit up with spot lights. Many drove by numerous times and brought back others to see it. Some even stopped to make donations to keep it going next year.
SERVPRO is honored to be part of a Community that honors their Military and Veterans.
SERVPRO Franchises come together

Two Franchises: One Team
Two Franchises: One Team
A very large housing development property water loss call came in to the Quincy SERVPRO office. The loss property is located almost center of two different SERVPRO franchises; Quincy and Peoria. The loss was huge, 6 floors and 110 units affected. Instead of the two franchises fighting over who took the job, both owners knew it was best to work together. They pooled their resources, equipment and man-power. Together they worked out a plan and split up the building, 3 floors for each franchise.
The insurance adjusters and the property management alike were all impressed by the work being done by SERVPRO. The work being done as One Team.
So, both franchises can be confident when asked, "Why SERVPRO?", they can easily say, "We can put our independent businesses aside and come together as One Team for the betterment of those in need.

Why SERVPRO? Because we Care!
So, what makes SERVPRO of Quincy different? Why would I choose them over their competition?
Well, several things stand out when thinking about how to answer these questions. First of all, the professionalism and caring nature of our staff. When asked what the favorite part of their jobs was, all have said: "Helping someone in their time of need and making a difference."
It is easy to see this in the quality of work that each of them produces on a daily basis. Doing the work in the same manner that they would if it were their own personal loss.
Another way and a very good reason for the why is, SERVPRO's care for the Community. We were told of the need by the local Neighborhood Federation for several Blessing Boxes - Mini Food Pantries. Our construction team stepped up and made two. They are now placed in much needed areas of the city. SERVPRO continues to collect food and distributes that food daily to these boxes.

Be Different: Be Better
SERVPRO of Quincy has prided itself on being different in the cleaning and restoration business. There are several cleaning and restoration businesses in the area that claim they are "Premier" or "Masters" at what they do, but when it comes down to it, there is only one "Pro" and we dare to be different.
One particular that sets us apart from some of the competitors is our Esporta Wash System. The patented Esporta is designed to clean over 90% of soft contents and textiles impacted by CAT 2 & 3 Water Damage, Heavy Smoke & Soot, Trauma Clean Up, and much more.
So, how are we different?
After a local loss, we at SERVPRO of Quincy have offered to pick up, wash and return several pairs of "Emergency" clothes for homeowners using our Esporta. This helps them in a very trying time and they can now concentrate on family and other needs.
If you ever find yourself in a situation where you and your family would need this Emergency Service, please contact us and let us be Different: let us be Better.

Proud Partners
Every day, seven people die in home fires, most victims in homes that lack smoke alarms. Sadly, children and the elderly disproportionately lose their lives. The American Red Cross and SERVPRO of Quincy want to improve the odds and save lives.
That is why we are proud to partner with the American Red Cross in their "Sound the Alarm, Save a Life" campaign. The program allows any certified partner of the American Red Cross to install up to three Free Smoke Alarms in any home.
Almost 150...
Since March of 2019, we have installed almost 150 alarms. That means at least 50 plus households are just a little safer because of this invaluable program. And we are also proud to offer the installation service, Free of Charge.
If you or someone you love does not have working Smoke Alarms in their home, or the ones they have are outdated or need upgraded, please call us for an appointment. Do Not Wait...

If you could choose the seasons... would you?

Would you forget Winter?
Winter is a wonderful time of year in the mid-west. When we wake up to sub-zero temperatures and look out our windows at all the fresh white powder, we can conclude, it is a great place to live. If you are a Snow Leopard, that is.
What is all that snow good for anyway?
- Snow is an insulating blanket for our plants, protecting roots.
- Deep snow helps the soil retain moisture over winter.
- Snow, like rain, is full of nitrogen. All vegetation will love this when spring finally comes.
- Lake levels and water supplies will be generously replenished this spring.
But we must also be cautious of snow, even though it does provide these positives, it can wreck your home and surroundings. Heavy snow can crush small trees and shrubs, breaking off tender shoots and branches. It can also wreak havoc on the roof of your home or business. The weight of heavy snow can damage your roof, leading to leaks or even collapsing.
If you would happen to experience the negative side of snow this year and need the help of Professionals that have seen it all...

Are You Winter Weather Ready
11/29/2018 (Permalink)
Are you prepared for the coming cold weather? Cold weather can have a huge impact on your home or business if you are not ready for it. From heavy rain and freezing temperatures to damaging winds, sleet or snow, all can cause serious and costly property damage. While you cannot control the weather, you can take steps to be prepared and help take the sting out of winter weather.
To help prevent costly damages due to weather, consider taking the following precautions to protect your property before colder weather hits.
- Check your business property for downed tree limbs and branches. Wind, heavy rain, ice and snow can cause branches to fall, which could cause damage to the property and potentially cause personal injuries.
- Roofs, water pipes, and gutters should all be inspected to help ensure they are in proper order. Gutter downspouts should be directed away from your building. Clear gutters of debris that may have gathered during the fall. Leaves and other obstructions can cause a damming effect, which can lead to roof damage and interior water problems.
- Inspect property, especially walkways and parking lots, for proper drainage to alleviate a potential flood hazard.
- Inspect all handrails, stairwells and entryways to address and correct potential slippery or hazardous areas. Install mats or non-slip surfaces and post caution signs where water could be present.
- Protect water pipes from freezing by simply allowing water to drip when temperatures dip below freezing. If pipes are under a cabinet, leave the cabinet doors open, allowing warm inside air to circulate around the pipes. If the building has outdoor faucets, consider shutting water off at the main valve in the basement or crawl space. Once the valve is off, open the outdoor faucet to ensure it drains, preventing any remaining water from freezing in the pipe.
- Ask SERVPRO of Quincy Franchise Professionals about and Emergency READY Profile (ERP) for your business. The ERP is a no-cost assessment of your facility and provides you with a plan to get back in business faster following a disaster.
When winter weather strikes, call SERVPRO of Quincy to strike back.
Sewage System Backups
11/28/2018 (Permalink)
The reason you should choose SERVPRO of Quincy is because we are not afraid to get down and dirty. SERVPRO of Quincy has the expertise, experience, and equipment to safely remediate sewage damage in your home, business, or crawlspace.
Water from sewer system backups should be considered very dangerous. The water is grossly unsanitary and may contain bacteria and viruses that could cause serious illness. Special training and equipment is necessary to safely clean this type of contamination.
Sewage Backup or Toilet Overflow? Call Us Today – (217) 223-2993
There are three major types of water. SERVPRO of Quincy will inspect the water to determine its type and then plan the appropriate response to safely restore your home or business back to preloss condition.
The Three Types of Water Damage:
Category 1: "Clean Water"
This is water from a clean source, such as a broken water supply line or faucet. If left untreated, Category 1 water can quickly escalate into Category 2 or 3 water depending upon factors such as time, temperature, and contact with contaminants.
Category 2: "Gray Water"
This water has a significant level of contamination that could cause discomfort or illness if ingested. Sources for Category 2 water may include washing machine overflow; toilet overflow with some urine, but no feces; or dishwasher overflow. These sources may infect the water with bacteria and viruses. Category 2 water can quickly turn into Category 3 water if left untreated.
Category 3: "Black Water"
This water is grossly unsanitary and could cause severe illness or death if ingested, and any contact should be avoided. Sources for Category 3 water could include flooding from rivers or streams, water from beyond the toilet trap, water from the toilet bowl with feces, or standing water that has begun to support microbial growth. Category 3 water may contain untreated sewage, harsh chemicals and microbes.

Preparing Your Business for Winter Storms
11/16/2018 (Permalink)
Winter is getting closer in the Quincy area. This means that your businesses may be affected by winter storms. These dangerous storms cause damage to property each year, but fortunately, there are ways to protect your business before the storms have a chance to cause any damage. SERVPRO of Quincy is here to give you some tips you can use in order to protect your business from potential storm damage this season!
Protect Your Pipes!
Winter storms are notorious for freezing pipes within your building. These frozen pipes can burst and cause water to flow everywhere. Make sure to check your pipes regularly to see if they need any maintenance. Keep deodorization items around in case water ends up getting onto your carpet. This will help prevent any nasty smells from building up if the water does end up soaking too deep into the fabric.
Get a Generator
There is no telling whether your business will lose power during a storm. Having a generator on hand will allow you to keep electricity running even if the power does end up going out. Make sure to have a generator fully charged and on hand if you ever find yourself in the path of a winter storm.
Update Everyone Regularly
Make sure to maintain consistent communication with all of your employees. Check for weather updates on your phone or computer and plan accordingly if the weather does become severe. Ensuring everyone’s safety is a top priority for you as a business owner, so you need to be able to relay important information regarding any storms to your employees if necessary.
Have a Snow Removal Plan
Oftentimes, severe winter storms come with heavy snowfall. Failure to quickly remove snow will allow it to build up. Built up snow can potentially prevent people from leaving the building if it becomes too deep. It is important to have snow shovels on hand and regularly remove snow from high traffic areas and entrances. Failure to do so can result in injury from slipping and may lead to injured employees and customers.
Being prepared is the first step in ensuring safety during a winter storm. These tips are designed to help you stay ahead of the storm before it can cause damage to your business or property. Make sure to follow them and check the weather regularly this season for any updates on dangerous winter storms that may be coming to your area.
Sometimes, dealing with the effects of winter storms on your business premises may be overwhelming. Do not worry, SERVPRO of Quincy has the tools and experience to help you get your business back to its pre-damage condition!
Why is Your Water Heater Making Noise?
11/16/2018 (Permalink)
Hot water is the lifeblood of your morning; it jolts you awake after you begrudgingly drag yourself out of bed. It’s a must have in Quincy, IL, but what if your water heater is making noise? Is there cause for concern? Odds are you just need to do some proper maintenance. Here are some of the more common sounds that you might hear, and how to go about fixing them.
Humming
Often a humming noise is caused by the element in your heater loosening over time, a natural occurrence as the water flows around it. Simply tightening things up will solve this problem in a jiff.
Bumping or Knocking
This isn’t actually coming from your unit, but rather the pipes in your walls moving as the heater starts up or turns off. There’s no issue here for your heater, but you should have someone check out your pipes to avoid wall damage in the future.
Rumbling and Popping
If you hear a rumble or pop coming from your water heater, it’s likely that some amount of sediment has cooled and settled toward the bottom of the element. When the hot water is forced through the sediment that’s gathered, it creates that sort of crackling sound. Simple maintenance should solve this problem, which is more common in older units than their more modern counterparts. A simple water heater flush should clear out that sediment, and the sounds should go away as a result.
These are the most common noises you’ll hear from your heating unit, but a number of other things can arise as your appliance progresses through the natural wear and tear of daily use. Sediment is naturally going to gather in your heater, but you can also prevent the accumulation through a number of other ways — like a water softener installed in your water line, for example.
The noises you’ll hear coming from your water heater often aren’t dangerous, but instead are indications that you should give it some proper care. Use the tips above to see what steps you should take, and don’t ever hesitate to reach out to trained professionals for additional help.

Is Your Property Winter Ready?
11/28/2016 (Permalink)
Cold weather can have a huge impact on your home or business if you are not properly prepared. Whether it is heavy rain, freezing temperatures, damaging winds, sleet or snow, all can cause serious and costly property damage. While you cannot control the weather, you can take steps to be prepared and help take the sting out of winter weather.
To help prevent costly damages due to weather, consider taking the following precautions to protect your property before colder weather hits.
- Check your business property for downed tree limbs and branches. Weather, such as wind, heavy rain, ice and snow, can cause branches to fall, which could cause damage to the property and potentially cause personal injuries.
- Roofs, water pipes and gutters should all be inspected to ensure they are in proper order. Gutter downspouts should be directed away from your building. Clear gutters of debris that may have gathered during the fall. Leaves and other obstructions can lead to a damming effect, that can lead to roof damage and interior water problems.
- Inspect property, especially walkways and parking lots, for proper drainage to alleviate flood hazard potential.
- Inspect all handrails, stairwells and entryways to address and correct potential slippery or hazardous areas. Install mats or non-slip surfaces and post caution signs where water could be present.
- Protect water pipes from freezing by simply allowing water to drip when temperatures dip below freezing. If pipes are under a cabinet, leave the cabinet doors open allowing warm inside air to circulate around the pipes. If the building has outdoor faucets, consider shutting water off at the main valve in the basement or crawl space. Once the valve is off, open the outdoor faucet to ensure it drains, preventing any remaining water from freezing in the pipe.
- Ask SERVPRO of Quincy about completing an Emergency READY Profile (ERP) for your business. The ERP is a no cost assessment to your facility, and provides you with a plan to get back in business fast following a disaster.
When winter weather strikes, call SERVPRO of Quincy at 217-223-2993 to strike back.
Be Flood Smart
11/7/2016 (Permalink)
Floods are one of the most common and widespread natural disasters in the United States. Whether your home or business is near a coastline, along city streets, in the mountains, near a river or even in the desert - there is always potential for flood damage. Floodsmart.gov reports, in the last 5 years, all 50 states have experienced floods or flash floods. Just because you haven't experienced a flood in the past, does not mean you won't in the future. In fact, nearly 20% of all flood insurance claims come from moderate-to-low risk areas.* On average, floods cost $3.5 billion in annual losses in the United States.
According to the American Red Cross (ARC), floods cause more damage in the U.S. every year than any other weather-related disaster. The ARC offers the following flood safety tips:
- Stay away from floodwaters. If you come up on a flowing stream where water is above your ankles, stop, turn around and go another way. Six inches of swiftly moving water can sweep you off of your feet.
- If you approach a flooded road while driving, turn around and go another way. If you are caught on a flooded road and waters are rising rapidly around you, get out of the car quickly and move to a higher ground. Most cars can be swept away by less than two feet of moving water.
- Keep children out of the water. They are curious and often lack judgment about running water or contaminated water.
If a flood does strike your home or business, contact SERVPRO of Quincy at 217-223-2993. Even minor floods have the potential to cause major damage to a structure when not treated quickly and properly, and the cleanup is often an overwhelming task. SERVPRO of Quincy is prepared to handle any sized disaster. When fire and water take control of your life, SERVPRO of Quincy will help you take it back.
