What is Esporta?

10/23/2023 (Permalink)

Esporta Washing Machine This is the first step to all cloths and content received in. Washing and solutions.

The Esporta is an industrial-sized washing system that can restore the following types of damage and contamination: Category 1,2,3 Water Damage; Mold; Heavy Smoke and Soot; Bio Waste Contamination.

There are 6 different solutions attached to the Esporta. Each type of damage of contamination requires different solutions. The Esporta is aware of which to use once we give the machine the type off damage, using the digital pad on the front panel.

Once the content is washed with the solutions, we do custom drying techniques for the materials that cannot be ran through the normal dryer.

After they are dried, we fold, sort, and organize all content. Just like our drying techniques, the material will be assessed to determine if it needs boxed or bagged, all with labels.

After completion, a customer can come pick up their content or we can schedule a delivery to them.

Clean Water vs Contaminated Water

6/28/2023 (Permalink)

Please be aware of the differences between clean water and contaminated water.

Damage from Clean Water:

  • If necessary, turn off the water supply or contact a trained professional to do so.
  • If access to the power distribution panel is protected from possible electrical shock, turn off circuit breakers for wet areas of the house.
  • Using a mop and a blotting motion, remove as much excess water as possible.
  • After removing lamps and tabletop pieces, wipe excess water from wood furniture. Remove and prop up wet upholstery cushions for even drying. Place aluminum foil or wood blocks between furniture legs and wet carpeting.

Damage from Contaminated Water:

  • Avoid any interaction with sewage and sewage-contaminated products and do not walk through contaminated areas because you can spread damage to unaffected areas.
  • If there is a risk of spreading dirty air, do not turn on the HVAC system.
  • Do not use household fans to dry the structure; air flow may disperse pollutants. If exposed to polluted areas, discard any food and/or items for personal hygiene and cleanliness.

Tornado!

6/28/2023 (Permalink)

Tornadoes are arguably nature’s most violent storms. Generated from powerful thunderstorms, tornadoes generally appear as rotating, funnel-shaped clouds extending from the cloud base to the ground. With winds that can reach up to 300 miles per hour, tornadoes can cause massive destruction within seconds. Damage paths can be in excess of one mile wide and fifty miles long.

  • The average tornado moves southwest to northeast, but tornadoes have been known to move in any direction.
  • The average forward speed of a tornado is 30 miles per hour but may vary from stationary to 70 miles per hour.
  • Tornadoes can accompany tropical storms and hurricanes as they move onto land.
  • They are most frequently reported during the spring and summer months.
  • Tornadoes are most likely to occur between 3pm and 9pm.

Unexpected emergencies like tornadoes call for immediate action. SERVPRO of Quincy knows immediate reaction to the disaster is important to helping you get your life back to normal. We are here to make it “Like it never even happened.” Call us at 217-223-2993.

Be Prepared for Severe Weather

6/28/2023 (Permalink)

Here in the Midwest, we all know that severe weather can roll in quickly even with sunny skies. The heroes at SERVPRO of Hannibal want you to be prepared at all times for these storms. Here are some tips that can help you prepare before, during, and after the storm.

Before the Storm

Build an emergency supply kit for your family and make a family communication plan. Some items to include:

  • Water
  • Food
  • Batteries
  • Flashlights
  • Battery operated radio
  • First aid kit
  • Communication device (phone or walkie-talkie)

During the Storm

Thunderstorms are classified as “severe” when they contain hail, winds in excess of 58 mph, the possibility to produce large damaging winds, and/or tornadoes.

  • Stay inside and away from windows and doors.
  • Avoid contact with any electrical equipment or cords.
  • Use your battery-operated radio updates from the local weather stations.
  • Avoid contact with plumbing. Plumbing fixtures can conduct electricity.

After the Storm

Severe weather can bring extensive damage to your home or business. A few things to remember:

  • Never walk or drive through flooded roads. It only takes 2 inches of water to sweep an adult off their feet and 6 inches of water to move an SUV.
  • Stay away from downed electric and power lines.
  • Continue to listen to local weather reports for updated information or instructions.
  • Stay away from storm-damaged areas.

When unexpected emergencies like severe weather happen, SERVPRO of Hannibal is here to help get your life back to normal. By utilizing our 1-4-8 Service Response Guidelines, we can help make it, Like it never even happened.

Ice Dams are Bad

10/28/2022 (Permalink)

Protect against Ice Dams

Coming into the winter season here in Missouri and Illinois, we want to talk about Ice Dams and what they are, and how to prevent them from forming at your home or business.

Ice dams form on the lower edge of building roofs preventing melted snow water from being able to run off the roof’s surface.  When melted water gets trapped and can’t escape, it can penetrate under the roof's shingles and run into the home possibly causing wet walls, ceilings, and insulation.

These ice dams are formed when warm air inside one’s home travels into the open roof cavity and warms the roof sheathing.  This warm air can escape from our homes through unsealed openings around light fixtures, wall sockets, chimneys, and ventilation systems.  When the warm air rises, the snow melts at the peak of the home and runs down to the cooler edges of the roof, this causes the dam.  When ice dams are visible, it’s a sure sign that a person is having heat loss in their home.

There are a few ways to prevent ice dams from forming.  Snow removal can be done with a rake or with salt.  Either of which you must be careful not to damage the roofing.  The best preventative measure is to make sure your ceilings are as airtight as possible.  The insulation should have a minimum R-value of 50.  If an ice dam forms, it can be removed by a professional with steam-powered equipment.  Getting up on your roof and chopping at the ice is dangerous and can also be damaging.

If you need help, please call SERVPRO of Quincy or SERVPRO of Hannibal, so we can help with the damage.  217-223-2993 or 573-231-0056.

Home Fire Sprinklers Save Lives

9/19/2022 (Permalink)

A Home Fire Sprinkler can save your life.

Smoke Alarms and Fire Sprinklers can reduce your risk of dying in a fire by 82 percent.

Home fire sprinklers are more sensitive to heat than those found in businesses or industrial buildings. This means the fire will be detected much sooner. The risk to firefighters is also much less. Sprinklers reduce the heat, flame, and smoke from a fire.

Fire Sprinklers protect your home and your family. Know the facts:

  1. Home fire sprinklers keep fires small by reducing the heat, flames, and smoke made in a fire.
  2. Only the home fire sprinkler closest to the fire will spray water.
  3. Home fire sprinklers put much less water on the fire than a fire department hose.
  4. Home fire sprinklers can be installed in new and already built homes. Install a home fire sprinkler system if you are remodeling or building a home.

Don't Wait, Check the Date

9/13/2022 (Permalink)

Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years

When it comes to your smoke alarms, age matters. You should check the manufacture date on your alarms, as soon as possible. Alarms older than 10 years should be replaced immediately.

  1. Remove the Alarm from the wall or ceiling.
  2. Look at the back of the Alarm for the date of manufacture.
  3. Smoke Alarms should be replaced 10 years from the date of manufacture.
  4. Put the Alarm back on the ceiling or wall if it is less than 10 years old.

Regardless of age, Smoke Alarms should be tested once a month by pushing the test button.

Alarms should be installed in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area, and on every level of the home, including the basement.

SERVPRO of Quincy has teamed up with the American Red Cross in their Sound the Alarm program. This program provides up to 3 Free Smoke Alarms per home and SERVPRO will install them for Free as well.

You can count on us to replace your old Smoke Alarms.
