Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years
When it comes to your smoke alarms, age matters. You should check the manufacture date on your alarms, as soon as possible. Alarms older than 10 years should be replaced immediately.
- Remove the Alarm from the wall or ceiling.
- Look at the back of the Alarm for the date of manufacture.
- Smoke Alarms should be replaced 10 years from the date of manufacture.
- Put the Alarm back on the ceiling or wall if it is less than 10 years old.
Regardless of age, Smoke Alarms should be tested once a month by pushing the test button.
Alarms should be installed in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area, and on every level of the home, including the basement.
